The Red Cross provides the following services for the armed forces: transmission of emergency messages; interest-free loans or grants when urgent personal or family crises arise; counseling, information, referrals and other social services; assistance to veterans claiming financial benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs and support services to patients in Veterans Administration hospitals.
